We reached over 20,000 families, and taught children how saving energy is related to preserving our environment.

Children love animals and can relate to helping them as part of their world. To address the brief we developed an exciting, interactive and innovative experience as part of Ausgrid’s sponsorship of The Great Southern Oceans exhibit at Taronga Zoo.

Execution

The experience centered on an Augmented Reality exhibit, featuring a fully animated version of Taronga Zoo's sea lion - Nala - and her child friend Amy. Visitors saw themselves projected into a "magic mirror" display, able to interact with Nala and Amy and enjoy an adventure that involved the virtual and physical environment around them. For example, as a reward for quickly closing the fridge door to ‘save energy’, children were able to feed “Nala” a virtual fish from the fridge.

The innovative technology used showcased a world-first in augmented reality. By creating a real-time 3D scan of visitors, a realistic, life- size experience was delivered that that rendered graphic animation based on movement and allowed the virtual sea lion to move 360° around the subject.

The message of the campaign continued after the experience with a takeaway bag, including a copy of an illustrated story - Amy Helps Save Our Marine Animals - and a wind up torch.
